Week 14 September 9, 2010

Dear family,
Yolanda got baptized last week and her two sons were there, too. We found out that we were actually supposed to be teaching the kids even though Yolanda is a new convert now, so we've been going there and we can speak English with the kids because most of the kids in Las Vegas can speak Spanish and English. Jonathan is 8 years old and Brian is 7 years old and so we want to baptize Jonathan this week with Jose (his dad), but Jose has been at work for the past week and all he needs is one more lesson before his baptismal interview. It's definitely a lot different teaching kids because they have so much energy and once you tell them something, they'll usually remember it.

Luis has also been doing really good with not smoking this past week and a half. He only has the desire to smoke when he gets mad, and so on Tuesday, we took him to the temple and we had an RM (returned missionary)with us to help us. Luis really felt the Spirit and he had some good questions and the Spirit could testify of our answers so much more powerfully when we were at the temple.

Arlene is our investigator who has a child and has a court date for the 13th. So we still can't set her for a baptismal date until then. She's also been having trouble coming to church because these things always seem to come up at the last minute. She still wants to be baptized, though.

On Tuesday, it rained for like an hour or so and that's the only rain I've seen here so far. It's good though because if we did have rain, it'd be flooded because there are hardly any drainages on the streets.

So, not that much happened for my birthday. My companion sang Feliz Cumpleanos to the tune of Feliz Navidad and that was it. I can't really play the CD I got from you because President said that the music has to make you feel comfortable if it were played in Sacrament meeting.

Today is our apartment inspection and so we've spent like 3 hours trying to get everything cleaned up. We had to get like 6 bags of trash, haha. Transfer Conference is on Tuesday, so I don't know if I'm staying the area, but Elder Parker is probably going to move out of the area since he's been here for 3 transfers and he says that once he starts getting used to an area he gets transferred.

I think I'm getting calices on my hands from riding my bike, so I'll give the biking gloves a shot. Everybody says that calices are good because people will "see how hard you're working" and apparently girls like rough hands. But I don't really know.

I think that's pretty much it. I can't think of anything else. I'll tell you if I need anything.

I love you!
