February 10, 2011

Dear family,
Things are starting to get a little better. In our ward, we're going to have March be our "missionary month" where all the talks in March will be about missionary work and then on Fast Sunday in April, it will be totally directed towards members being involved more in missionary work. There's still not as many investigators as we'd like, but we're still trying our best to do what we can and think of new ways of finding people. It's taken me a bit of time to realize that street contacts will have to be approached a little differently because of how many people aren't interested, so I'm still trying to adjust to that. Sometimes we have to know what to say and how to say it.

Not too much has happened still in terms of lessons. We had a good lesson with a lady named Georgina Wild and her inactive husband, Will, although he doesn't remember ever being baptized or anything that we shared. They really seemed interested in the Book of Mormon and so we'll see how that goes.

There was another lady we're teaching and her name is Katrina. Apparently she's been taught everything and she doesn't really want to progress anymore, but her 9-year old daughter, Destiny, really wants to be baptized. The only problem is that we can only see them once a week, so that's a bummer.

We've had a couple lessons with Spanish people, but they didn't show that much interest in learning more. I don't think the missionaries will be able to watch the Worldwide Leadership Training video, or at least I won't because I'm too far away from any place that would show it. It might be different for other missionaries in Las Vegas or in different missions.

I got a haircut today and it was the first time that I've had to pay for one since I've been on my mission. Usually I just have my companions cut it, but this time nobody had haircutting tools.

That's great that Andrea is getting her friend involved in the church more at such an early age. I can't believe that she's already read the whole Book of Mormon. Just keep on inviting her to activities, and the missionaries will do all the teaching. If she ever has a question, just tell her to ask the missionaries. That's what they're for. There's a talk called "The Missionary Next Door" and it gives some great insight on what the members specifically should be doing to help their friends. What play is Andrea doing for school? That sounds like fun.

That's pretty much it for me this week. I'll probably send a letter home this week with things that I need.

I love you!

Elder Meiners
