August 11, 2011

Dear family and friends,

Things have been going pretty good lately. We got to set two people for baptism this week and so that was great. The first is named Byron and he's set for Sep. 10th. We met him on the street and he said that he'd talked with missionaries before in Guatemala and that he wants to have us come back over. His wife and his kids also seem really interested, too. The kids have been reading the Book of Mormon in English and they want to go to Mutual this week, but we haven't seen the mom that much because she works a lot during the day. They even invited us over one day so we could have a barbecue with them, so they seem really cool.

The next person we have is Luis Rodriguez and he's also set for Sep. 10th. The first time that we met him was inside the senior home that he lives in. Elder Pirir and another missionary were the ones that set him for baptism because I was on exchanges yesterday, so I don't know too much about him, but from what I hear he sounds like he's doing well, also.

We also talked to Rafael's mom on Tuesday, but she said that she still hasn't had any time to think about Rafael's baptism. We gave them a Restoration video and we told them that they could both watch it together or they could both read the Book of Mormon together, or something so that both of them could be involved. We also urged her to read and pray in specific to know if Rafael should be baptized.

We're also still teaching Jose Garcia, the one that had his electricity break and then turn on again. He was looking for a job this past week because he has to pay rent soon, and so one of the members of our ward offered him a job in carpentry and putting up trims a couple days ago, but he got a call saying that he was going to lose his house in a couple of days, so we're going to pray for him.

We recently did a major cleaning of our apartment on Saturday. We thought maybe our vacuum wasn't working because it wasn't really sucking up any of the dirt, so we checked it out and when we pulled out the tube, we couldn't really get anything out. So we put it in the sink to try and get the water flowing through it and as we started doing that, hairballs about the size of my fist started to come out. There were about 4 or 5 of them that came out until it was completely clean, but now at least our vacuum works, haha.

It was also weird because on Sunday, Elder Pirir's bike chain broke and then later on that night we found out that one of the tires on our car was flat, and so  we put the emergency tire on and then the next day went to Discount Tire and when they pulled out the tire, the inside of the tire was broken up into bits and pieces and so they said they would have to replace the tire because they couldn't fix it. But at least now we have our car back and it's working again. And plus, Elder Pirir got a chain breaker so he could fix his chain and that's working, too.

It sounds like everything with band camp is going well and that Andrea is managing with the music. Everything will turn out well and she'll be fine.

That's great that Erika got a new job! It's great that she has a job now in this economy and I'm sure that she'll have a fun time with it and learn a lot.

That's also great that Mom is starting up a brand new series of books. That's sounds like a neat idea and I hope that everything goes well with that.

It's also interesting that you brought up those people that are getting married and how I was friends with those people. Everybody's getting married now I guess, haha.

Well, that's pretty much it from me. I don't have that much time left, but I'll tell you if I need anything.

I love you all!
