April 21, 2010

Dear family,
This week has been pretty good. We still have José Flores and his 3 kids and also Margarita set for baptism this week, we just have to do their baptismal interviews tonight to make sure that everything is okay. We will also probably be able to baptize Max this transfer, too. He asked when Elder Alatorre is leaving and so he wanted to be baptized before he left. Max said that he'd probably be baptized in two weeks or something, and so we were just waiting for him to say yes.
It's definitely getting a little warmer here in Mesquite. I think it's usually around 80 or 85 in the middle of the day now, so we don't have to wear our jackets so much. We only have to wear it if it's for church, a district meeting/zone conference, or if it's above 75 degrees. But pretty soon in May, we won't even have to wear jackets unless it's for church meetings, so the 75 degree rule won't apply because it'll be so hot.
We had a ward mission leader fireside on Sunday and our mission president and stake president were there for it. They basically just talked about how you can use mormon.org to effectively do missionary work with other non-members. They said that missionaries will even be able to create profiles on P-Day, but I haven't heard anything about it yet.
We also had exchanges a couple times this week. I had a really good exchange with the zone leaders when one of them came to my area. We just tried to stay busy for most of the day because in the afternoon, we hardly had anything planned, but somehow it all worked out. I had another exchange yesterday with another missionary in my district and that was pretty good. We didn't get to teach a whole lot of people, but we still did the best that we could.
I think this Easter Sunday will be a little different at least for the Spanish branch because they'll have Sacrament meeting, but right after, they won't have any classes. They'll be showing a new Church production of the Easter story, but it'll all be in Spanish. Not in English with Spanish translation, but the actual actors will be speaking in Spanish, so that'll be really cool, I think.
Yeah, whenever there's a high council speaker at our ward, they usually say the same thing. They can't really understand anything, but they can feel the Spirit. We had a high council speaker come and Elder Alatorre did the translating.
I think that we're going to hold English classes and Spanish classes for the members who don't know English and the youth that don't know Spanish so that more people will talk Spanish on the Spanish branch and even if the youth reply in English, the members will still be able to know what they're saying. I don't really know too much about what's going on with it yet, but we're still trying to figure it out.
So I tried to send some pictures today, but I found out that one of the camera cords that another missionary gave me doesn't fit my camera, so I might just mail some home or I'll figure something out.
That's crazy how Julia missed the flight to Rexburg, but then caught the only seat left on the next flight. I'd say that that was divine intervention, too.
Well, I guess that's pretty much it from me. I still haven't received the Easter package yet that you guys said you sent, but it'll probably get here within a few days. I think it was funny because Elder Alatorre said that in Mexico, there's no Easter bunny or eggs or anything like that for Easter and he asked me why they do that here. I said that I honestly didn't know. It's weird how all of the Christian holidays will be turned into something that hardly even makes sense. As for me, I'm doing pretty good. I'll tell you if I need anything.

I love you!

Elder Meiners
