Dear family,
Elder Boschi and I are doing pretty good. We baptized Arlene this week and the amount of progress she has made is amazing. She told us that ever since her baptism, she's been happy. We even tried to take her out with us for some lessons, but only one person was home.
We have a couple, Fernando Rojas and Neri Gerardo, that are set for baptism on the 27th of November. We also set another person for baptism yesterday. Her name is Rocio and she was a member referral. She really seems to like the lessons that we teach, and she thought that her date of December 4th might be too early, but we told her that we would teach her more and make sure that she was ready. We're still going to have to work really hard to make sure we have daily contact with her.
Everybody loves winter in Las Vegas because it only goes down to like 60 or 70 degrees in the daytime. We started to wear a sweater for a couple days, but it's actually too hot to wear a sweater, especially if we're riding our bikes and sweating.
So a little bit about Elder Boschi: he's from Wisconsin, and he only has about a month left in the mission. He's served in every Spanish ward there is in the mission, which is only about 4 or 5. They just started the English classes yesterday and right now I think it's ward members teaching the classes.
Yes, I'm in a ward, it's called the Los Feliz ward. It's actually not too different from what I'm used to. The building I'm in right now is part of the English missionaries' ward, and it has the exact same design as the ones back home.
That sounds fun that you'll be going to Cincinnati for Thanksgiving and California for Christmas and James' wedding. Now that I think about it, you'll have to get James presents for his wedding, Christmas, and his birthday, all in one week. Good luck with that.
There were also two times when peopole asked us why their parents died when they were so young, and we tried to explain to them that we don't know everything or why it happens, but with everything that does happen, there's always something to learn. A really good article by John Bytheway from the September 2007 New Era explained 1 Nephi 11:17 where Nephi says something along the lines of "I know that God loves his children, nevertheless, I do not know the meaning of all things." So if we know that God loves all of us, then there must be a reason as to why God does the things that he does. So instead of asking "Why did this happen to me?" we say "I know that God loves me, so what can I learn from this?"
Anyways, we've been pretty good. I'm still working hard. As far as I know, we don't have anything planned for Thanksgiving, but that's a few weeks away and we'll have time to see where we're going. I'll tell you if I need anything.
I love you!
Elder Meiners
