Dear family,
So I did get transferred. I got here in Bullhead City, AZ on Tuesday. Now you're all probably wondering what I'm doing in Arizona. The Nevada Las Vegas Mission covers everything east of Las Vegas Blvd. (The Strip) and a few cities outside of Las Vegas such as Elko (which is almost in Utah), Mesquite, and Kingman, which is in Arizona, so right now I'm part of the Kingman stake. The work definitely is a lot different here. For one thing, I have a car because our area is about 4 times as big. As opposed to anybody being on the street in Las Vegas, there's almost nobody here on the street. So most of the work that we do is less-active work because more than 3/4 of our ward is inactive and don't come to church at all.
Also, my calling right now is to teach in English and only teach in Spanish when necessary. So most of our appointments will be English, and if there are any Spanish investigators, I'll be doing most of the talking because my companion doesn't know any Spanish.
Speaking of which, my new companion's name is Elder Smethurst and he's from Alberta, Canada. He has only been out on a mission for 6 weeks, and those 6 weeks he spent here in Bullhead City. I can tell that he still has that greenie spirit in him to do the work, so I'm excited for him and what he'll learn this transfer.
Last week, one of the teachers wasn't there for the 14-15 year old class for Sunday school in Los Feliz, so Elder Colon just taught Lesson 3 because it was all that he could think of to teach. He just taught it in English because all the kids knew English.
That's good that both Julia and James found a job in these economic times, and that Erika and Tyler found a car that they can use for whatever they need.
I remember the last time Maryland got a lot of ice was during that huge ice storm about 4 years ago where everything was totally frozen over for about a week. It might not be that bad this year. As for Bullhead City, it's actually pretty warm here, around 60-70 degrees on average. I heard that the summers are supposed to be brutal, though, getting up to about 120. Who knows, I might not even be here for the summer.
I guess that's it from me for right now. I'll tell you if I need anything.
I love you!
Elder Meiners
