January 27, 2011

Dear family,

Not much has changed since this past week. We actually haven't had a single lesson where we went into someone's house to teach them since last Wednesday. So I guess you could say the work has been kind of slow. We're still trying our best, though, to put our best efforts into it and do what the Lord wants us to do.

You guys sure had a lot of questions this week, so I'll answer as many as I can. Elder Smethurst and I cover most of Bullhead City (AZ) and all of Laughlin (on the other side of the river in NV). The other missionaries that live in our apartment, Elder Hansen and Hartman, cover a little bit of Bullhead City and most of Fort Mohave. There's also a senior couple who cover Needles in CA. We cover the River Gardens Ward and then Elder Hansen and Hartman go to the same building, but they go to the Mountain View Ward. So it's 2 missionaries per ward, as apposed to what I was used to in Las Vegas, 6 missionaries per ward. They're both part of the Kingman Stake in Arizona.

We haven't been teaching any investigators yet, so I don't really know who anybody is or how they've been doing. I've only had to use my Spanish twice since I've been here. I think Wikipedia might've been lying to you because I haven't seen any Spanish people last week except for two people. The work is definitely different in English because there are so many people who are moving out of houses or have all these medical concerns that with Spanish people you hardly have to deal with. Most of the concerns and questions that Spanish people have can easily be answered and they don't do a whole lot of bashing, either. They're also way nicer, haha. Everybody I see and hear about is white, old, and retired, so there's also a lot of inactive work to do in the ward like I said last week. We mostly just do visits to inactive members, not lessons.

We get fed every night by ward members except for P-Day, so if I'm not eating healthy, blame the members. Most of the members said that I need to gain weight anyway. Our ward is mostly old senior couples that are retired and some regular families here and there. I've seen the ward mission leader a couple times, but I don't think I 've met the bishop yet.

Sounds like Maryland is having a big storm over there. Try to be careful with wherever you go and what you do. The only weather problem that we've had so far is that it gets unbearably windy sometimes, so it makes it hard to talk to people and also hard to ride our bikes.

I guess that's it. I'm doing pretty good here. I'll tell you if I need anything.

I love you!
